    Notes:

No matter where she lived throughout her life, Annette Imm always created a warm and inviting home for her family to enjoy. She was kind and loving not only towards her own family, but to so many others as well. Annette was an elegant and proper lady who gave of her time to touch the lives of others as an outpouring of the faith that was engraved upon her innermost soul. She leaves behind countless memories that will be forever etched on the hearts of those who treasured her.
The year 1918 is often remembered as the year in which WWI came to an end, but it was also during this year that the flu pandemic reached an all-time peak of 202 deaths daily, daylight saving time began, and New York’s subway experienced their worst accident after a train jumped the track traveling five times the speed limit. Brighter days were on the horizon, however, especially in the family of Florence and Theresa (Genth) Nix since they were celebrating the birth of their daughter, Annette Johanna, on June 6th of that year. Annette was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as the second of ten children in her family including siblings Bernadine, Armella, Kenny, Lorena, Zeno, Eugene, Katie, Pauline, and Tom. Her father was a postal worker while her mother stayed home to tend to the needs of her very active family. Annette was raised in Fort Wayne where she attended St. Andrews Elementary School and continued on to Central High School. Tragedy struck in the Nix family with the death of Annette’s father in 1934 when he was only in his mid-thirties. Annette stepped in to help her mother around the house as much as she could while still keeping up with her studies at the same time. As a high school student she could type 100 words a minute, which was quite a feat on the old-style typewriters.
After graduating from high school in 1936, Annette worked as a secretary for various businesses in the area and continued to help her mother out at home. It was also during this time that Annette’s life drastically moved in a new and exciting direction. A young man named Joseph Imm had been seeing Annette’s sister Armella but when Armella took him to a party, Annette and Joseph discovered they really got along great and subsequently began dating. There were no hard feelings between Annette and her sister about this dating relationship and on January 24, 1942, Annette became Mrs. Joseph Imm. The couple exchanged their vows in St. Andrews Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, beginning a new chapter in their love story.
Nothing could have made the couple happier than becoming the parents of five wonderful children: Tom, Don, John, Michael, and Mary. They moved from Indiana to Tucson, Arizona, where they lived for seven years. In 1954, they moved to Santa Ana, California. They remained in Santa Ana until Mary was 14 at which time they moved to Anaheim, California, just a bit to the north. The Imm family enjoyed many camping trips together every other weekend during the summers to various destinations within California. Every other year they drove to Indiana to pick up Grandma Nix to bring her out to California to spend time with their family. Wherever their family traveled, they always drove. Annette took great care of her family by keeping a neat and tidy home and preparing mouth-watering meals for them.
Although caring for her family kept Annette quite busy, she enjoyed some other things as well. She worked as a supervisor for the tax collector’s office of Orange County over a period of 23 years. Annette collected various pieces of art from an artist out west named DeGrazia. She fell in love with his work when she visited his studio on one occasion. Annette made rosaries for many years. Together she and Joseph started rosary groups at the churches where they were members. These were taken to missionaries and even to some prisons. Annette also liked to cross-stitch during her leisure time.
Annette Imm was a delightful woman who brought light and love to the world around her. She was filled with joy to see the family she established with her true love grow to include 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and even one great-great-grandchild. Annette was loving and gracious toward others, a true gift to all who knew and loved her. She will be dearly missed and warmly remembered.
Annette J. Imm of Plainwell died on Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Annette’s family includes her five children: Tom and Nativia Imm, of TX; Don and Diane Imm, of Plainwell; John and Judi Imm, of CA; Michael Imm, of Plainwell; Mary and Don Carroll, of TX; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; her siblings, Armella Scott, of WA; Kenny and Helen Nix, of IA; Zeno and Helen Nix, IN; Eugene and Joan Nix, of IN; Katie and Don Scharlach, of SC; and Pauline and Don Baker, of IN.
