    Notes:

Hollis Carlile. passed away on October 14, 2016 at the age of 91 due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease. Hollis became a very successful man in his field of Chemical Engineering over the course of his 30+ year career with Shell Oil. Although his adult years were proliferate, his early life was quite the opposite.
Hollis was born at home, as was the custom of the day, several weeks prematurely. When the visiting doctor initially examined him, he believed that Hollis had no chance of living so he indicated on his birth certificate that he was stillborn. This error proved confusing later in life (especially when he was drafted).
Hollis's parents were unable to care for Hollis and his brother Jack, so he was raised alternately by his beloved Grandmother Carlile and his much-revered Uncle Eddie. When Hollis reached high school, he returned to live with his father, an oil field roustabout. Due to the nature of the work, Hollis moved often, and attended several different high schools. Hollis finally settled with his father in Nacogdoches, TX, where he graduated as Valedictorian from Nacogdoches High School.
World War II saw Hollis being drafted, after he proved that he really was alive, and off he went into the Army Air Force as a B-17 Navigator. He was assigned to duty in England to run bombing missions over Germany; however, his assignment was so near the end of the conflict that he never flew any missions and was able to return home unharmed.
Thanks to the GI Bill, Hollis achieved his dream of attending the University of Texas School of Engineering and get his degree in Chemical Engineering. This is where he met his mentor and professor Dr. McKetta with whom he remained friends until his passing. About the time he graduated, he met Jacqueline on a blind date, and the two married after a short courtship. Hollis and Jackie were married for 63 years before her passing in 2014.
Hollis is survived by his five children, James, Mari, Grace, Gregg and Mark; his six grandchildren, Michael, Maxwell, Trevor, Alexander, Kristina, and Jessica; and his two great granddaughters, Cailean and Autumn.

bakersfield.com/obits Jacqueline M. Carlile 02/17/1925 - 5/22/2013 Jacqueline (Jackie) Mote Carlile was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on February 17, 1927 to Dr. Paul Revere Mote and his wife Jessie Elgin Hamilton Mote, a member of the Cherokee Nation. Jackie and her family moved to La Jolla, CA during World War II, where she graduated from high school. At the end of the War, Jackie's family moved back to Sapulpa, where she met her long-time spouse and love of her life, Hollis Carlile. Hollis was attending the University of Texas and worked summer jobs in the oil fields outside Tulsa, near Sapulpa. They met on a blind date arranged by the local matchmaker, and were married on March 26, 1950. Jackie furthered her education by earning a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Oklahoma University for Women. She was the fifth generation of women in her family to earn an advanced degree. Jackie was employed in the Business/Finance fields, until 1953, when the first of her five children were born. At that time, she chose to spend her days with her children rather than work outside her home. This she did until 35 years ago when she and Hollis relocated to Bakersfield where she became an even more avid bridge player, joined the AAUW (American Association for University Women), and became a member of a local Gourmet Cooking Group. Jackie died of Natural Causes on May 22, 2013. She is survived by her husband Hollis Carlile, her brother Charles and his wife Dolores; her eldest son James, his wife Estrella and their two daughters Kristina and Jessica; her elder daughter Mari, her husband Aaron Turner and their two sons, Alexander and Trevor, his wife Marcela and their two children, Catrina and Isaac; her younger daughter Grace, her husband David Nicoll (deceased) and their two sons, Michael and Maxwell, and his daughter Cailean; her middle son Gregg; and her youngest son Mark. Services are open to all those who knew Jackie and will be held at the Mill Creek Christian Church, located on Truxtun Ave., on Saturday, September 22, 2013 at 2:00 pm.
