    Accomplishments:
    Paul organized and served as Boy Scout Master for Odell Troop 66. He was an active member of the American Legion (post 666), Knights of Columbus (Units 40 and 8), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW posts 886 and 608), Dwight Moose and AM Vets of Pontiac. He served as local commander and district commander for the American Legion, commander for Disabled American Veterans of Dwight Post 80 and chairman of the 7th district VFW. He also served as treasurer of the Livingston County Korean and Vietnam Memorial in Pontiac. He was a member of the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC. He was honored by the Department of Defense at the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Korean War. Paul always believed that it was his duty as an American to gives back to his country

    Paul enjoyed many hobbies. He loved working with computers and learning about the latest technology. He also thoroughly enjoyed working with all his friends at the Pontiac War Museum and visiting his grandchildren when he could.

    Miyoko Schook, 81, of Odell, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 11:28 a.m. at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Odell with Father Chris Haake officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dwight.
    Friends may call Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m.
    Yoko was born on Dec. 6, 1936, in Otsuki, Japan to Mr. and Mrs. Nobu Shirasu and was raised in the foothills of Mt. Fuji. She was the eldest of four children and is survived by her siblings, Susumo (Mariko) Shirasu, Takashi Shirasu, and Midori Shirasu, all of Japan.
    She fell in love and married Paul J. Schook on Dec. 6, 1957, in Tokyo, Japan, before moving to Illinois to start a family and build a new life. Paul passed away Oct. 25, 2009.
    Also surviving are her daughter, Barbara S. (Kurt) Karlenzig of Chicago; and grandchildren, Mika and Max Karlenzig of Chicago, who were always the focus of her attention and affection.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; and son, Paul J. Schook, Jr.
    Her nursing career spanned more than 45 years at OSF St. James Hospital in Pontiac, where her dedication touched the lives of many families bringing new babies into the world with care and love.
    Yoko led a dedicated life as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, in-law, friend, and nurse. Through these roles, she was clear on her priorities to serve and had a great impact on family, friends and community. She had a strong sense of charity and gave generously to the church and many community organizations. Yoko was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Odell.
