Robert O. Walker, 63, 1808 Plumb Branch Lane, Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Hamilton, died Saturday in Park West Hospital, Knoxville.
An industrial engineer, Mr. Walker had been employed at National Lead Co., Fernald, from 1955 until moving to Tennessee in 1971. He was most recently employed at Allied Chemical Co., Knoxville.
While in Hamilton, Mr. Walker was active in several Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops and Junior Achievement. He also was a longtime member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II, he was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1945. He was wounded during the Allied invasion of France in 1944 and was awarded a Purple Heart.
He was born in Patton, Ill., a son of Shelby and Beulah (Potts) Walker. He graduated from Claypool, Ind., High School and attended Purdue University.
He leaves his wife, Janice E. Walker, and a stepson Michael S. Walker at home; stepson Robert J. Walker, managing editor of the Journal-News, Hamilton; a stepdaughter, Candace S. Walker, Jeannette, Pa.; five brothers, Francis Walker, Billy J. Walker and John Walker, Warsaw, Ind.; Frank Walker, Indianapolis, Ind.; and Jerry Walker, West Pittston, Pa., and five grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Walker will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wetherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge, Tenn. with visitation 7:30-9:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.
