    • Carl Lester Westhafer, Sr., age 85 of Mechanicsburg, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Born November 23, 1926 in Marysville, PA, he was a son of the late Wilbur and Helen (King) Westhafer.

      Carl was retired from the American Can Company in Lemoyne. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS Cadmus in the Pacific Theater and was 1 of 7 Westhafer brothers serving during WWII. He was a member of the Mechanicsburg VFW Post 6704, and attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church. In his free time, Carl enjoyed fishing and bowling with various leagues, at one point being on a team with his brothers.

      He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Adams) Westhafer as well as 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Surviving are his children, Carl L. Westhafer, Jr. and wife Colleen of Harrisburg, Brad Westhafer and wife Shirley of Mechanicsburg, Robin S. Piacine and husband Frank of Mechanicsburg, and Annette G. DeFlavia and husband Russell of Dillsburg; grandchildren, Bryan, Jeffrey, Andrew, Corinne, Christian, Scott, Ted, Bruce, Joshua, Seth, Anita, Jeremy, Jennifer, and Jewel; great-grandchildren, Elise, Lara, Kyra, Pam, Kathy, and Noah; great great-grandchildren, Kayla, Trevor, Brittany, and Kyle; as well as his brother Keith Westhafer and his sister Ginny Johnson.

      Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 15 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1480 Jerusalem Road, Mechanicsburg, where there will be a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Burial with military honors will be held at 12:30 PM Wednesday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

      In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1480 Jerusalem Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
