Roy Young Howell, 63, Kokomo, passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at his home. He was born on Jan. 23, 1946, in Adolphus, Ky., to Robert Knox and Anne Jo (Carter) Howell.

Roy graduated from Tipton High School in 1964 and served in the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry, fighting in Vietnam from 1965 to 1971. During that time, he was decorated with the Purple Heart. Roy married Becky Stoner on Nov. 24, 1978. Roy was a lifetime member of the Howard County Vietnam Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1152 in Kokomo. He retired in 1999 from Milbanks Manufacturing in Kokomo after 21 years. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends, going to the grandkids’ sporting events and loved watching drag racing with his buddies.

Survivors include his wife, Becky, Kokomo; children, Shannon and husband Jeff Jones, Indianapolis, Joyce Benefiel, Noblesville, Jeff and wife Amber Emmons, Kokomo, Mark and wife Kim Emmons, Indianapolis, Nita Jo and husband Greg Everling, Tipton, and James Wright, Arcadia; grandchildren, Micheal, Kaylee, and Emily Benefiel and Preston, Savannah, and Mark Emmons II.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, step-father and a brother.

Services are 4 p.m. Wednesday at Porter Funeral Home, Tipton, with Pastor Dennis “Chappy” Chapman officiating. Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
