Obituary Verda Alene Denny Coffeyville resident Verda Alene Denny age 96 passed away on August 22, 2006 in Coffeyville. She was born November 5, 1909 in Tyro, Kansas to Orion and Euphemia Anderson Hotze. She attended school at Spring Valley near Tyro, Kansas and she graduated from Tyro High School in 1927 and Coffeyville Community College in 1929. On November 4, 1931 she was united in marriage to Arthur W. Denny in Dewey, Oklahoma. The couple made their home on a farm that her grandparents homesteaded near Tyro. She was a homemaker, wife and mother. She was a past member of the Tyro Methodist Church and a member of the Abundant Life Temple in Coffeyville. Verda is survived by daughters Lois and husband Duane Testerman of Dearing, Helen and husband Herman Carroll of Edmond, Oklahoma and son Gene and wife Carletta Denny of rural Caney, Kansas; 15 Grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 5 Great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters Alene Pogue and Coleen Larkin; one brother Leo Dale Hotze. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 25, 2006 in the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Eddie Greenfield will officiate and burial will follow in the Fawn Creek Cemetery near Tyro. Verda Alene Pogue 1932 - 2005 Verda Alene Pogue, 73, of Olathe, Kansas formerly of Coffeyville, passed away early Saturday, December 17, 2005, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Mrs. Pogue was born September 5, 1932 in Tyro, Kansas to Arthur W. Denny and Verda Hoetz Denny. Alene married J.E. Pogue on August 10, 1957 in Colorado Springs, Colorado . Following Mr. Pogue39;s retirement in 1988 they moved to Coffeyville. He preceded her in death on December 15, 1996. She taught at public schools in both Kansas and Missouri, for over 40 years. Mrs. Pogue worked for Coffeyville USD 445 from 1989 to 1992. She was an active civic volunteer in Coffeyville, until she moved to Olathe in 2004. Mrs. Pogue was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Coffeyville. She is survived by her mother, Verda Denny of Coffeyville. Daughter, Beverly Pogue of Independence, MO, 3 Sons: Denny Pogue of St. James, MO; Russell Pogue of Henderson, KY; Charles Pogue of Olathe, KS, 2 Sisters: Lois Testerman of Dearing, KS; Helen Carroll of Edmond, OK, a Brother; Gene Denny of Independence, KS and 10 Grandchildren. Calling hours will be from 1pm-8pm, Wednesday, December 21, 2005 and from 8am until service time on Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the Funeral Home. There will be a Memorial Service held at 1pm, Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas. Reverend Rich Jenkins will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Fawn Creek Cemetery in lieu of flowers co Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
