- Mary Virginia (Klinker) Thornbury, 70, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died at St. Anthony's Healthcare Center at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, where she had been a patient the past 2 months.
Mary was born in Lafayette at St. Elizabeth Hospital August 17, 1941, the youngest of 7 brothers and sisters, to the late Fredric and Ottilia Sondgerath Klinker. She was a graduate of Lafayette Central Catholic High School, and was the valedictorian of her St. Elizabeth School of Nursing class of 1962. Mary worked as a registered nurse in all departments except surgery in hospitals and doctor's office in multiple states during the 18 moves she and her husband made in his career.
She married William Thornbury at St. Charles Catholic Church in Otterbein June 29, 1964, and he survives.
Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Punta Gorda, Fla., the Newcomers Club of Hayward, Wis. and was co-owner with her husband of a family resort in Hayward, Wis. She loved to cook, as one of her hobbies was cooking meals for those in need; and she enjoyed traveling, having been overseas to Europe, Asia and the South Pacific.
Surviving with her husband are 2 sons, Bradley (wife: Barbara) Thornbury, of Warrenville, Ill. and Ted (wife: Kelly) Thornbury, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; 3 brothers, Jerome (wife: Shirley) Klinker, David (wife: Sheila) Klinker and Victor (wife: Sheila) Klinker, all of Lafayette; a sister, Ottilia (husband: Lyle) Clute, of Lafayette; a daughter-in-law, Sara Thornbury McGrath, of Frankfort, Ill; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Scott; a brother, Fred Klinker; and a sister, Catherine Krodel.
Friends may call from the Rosary at 4:45 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at St. Mary's Cathedral. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral; Fr. Matthew J.
