- Donald Richard Zook, 73, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, September 11, 2015 in Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy. He was born Tuesday, February 3, 1942 in Chambersburg to the late Paul Knoll and Kathleen Annie (Johnson) Zook. He is survived by his loving wife Catherine Barbara (Landis) Zook.
Don was a 1960 graduate of Elizabethtown Area High School. He proudly served in the US Navy from February 1964 to July 1972; serving 3 tours in Vietnam aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard, the USS Kitty Hawk, and a land tour. When not overseas he was stationed in Miramar, San Diego, CA. Don was a faithful attendee of Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ, he enjoyed Bible studies. He retired from both National Cash Register and New Standard, being also formerly employed by Klein's Chocolates. Don enjoyed playing cards, going to car shows, on bus trips, and visiting covered bridges with his wife. Most importantly he was a loving family man.
He is survived by a daughter, Monica Van Scyoc and husband Bradley; 2 grandsons, Michael Fry and Zachary Van Scyoc; 2 brothers, Larry Zook and wife Cindie and James Zook and wife Sylvia; 2 sisters, Linda Noll and husband John and Darlene Hoffer and husband Donald; and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Zook Chapman. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Zook.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 18th at 11 AM at Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ 996 E, High St., Elizabethtown 17022 with Pastor Stephen Lane officiating. Family and friends are invited for viewing on Thursday, September 17th from 6-8 PM at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown 17022 and at the church on Friday from 10 AM until time of the service. Burial with full military honors will be private at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
