- Obituary for Jerold Henry Hawks
Jerold Henry Hawks, age 84, of Fruita, Colorado, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2018 attended by his beloved wife and children.
He was born May 23, 1933 in Bell, California, to George Elmer Hawks and Hazel Mae (Jessen) Hawks
Jerry attended elementary school in California, moving to Loma, CO with his family in 1948. He graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1951, lettering in football and basketball. On October 23,1953 he married the love of his life, Lucile Jayne Nix, sealed for time and all eternity, in the Manti Temple. Together, they had a daughter and four sons. Employed in many different jobs throughout his working career, Jerry was a talented jack of all trades. Whatever needed done was within his scope of abilities and his work ethic was exemplary.
Jerry’s special interests and hobbies included raising a family and building things, whether it was his home, sheds, play houses or replicas of pioneer wagons, he was always busy on a project. He loved caring for his home and property and found great pleasure in feeding the birds and listening to his music. He served faithfully in many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But the greatest of all his pastimes was spending time with his family, enjoying time with his posterity, old and young.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Jayne; daughter Pamela (Snover) Hawks; sons, Michael Hawks, David Hawks, Scott Hawks and Jerold N. Hawks; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and an older brother and sister.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. (visitation at 9:30 a.m.) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fruita. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
