    • Joel A. Nix November 14, 1939 - February 5, 2015 Joel A. Nix, 75, of Fruita, passed away on February 5, 2015, at home after a short battle with cancer. He was born on November 14, 1939, to William Jay and Lucile Johnson Nix in Blanding, Utah. After spending his childhood in Fruita and graduating from Fruita High School, Joel joined the United State Army. He served in Germany and Paris, France, as a radio transmission operator and a marksman. He was honorably discharged in December 1964. After coming home, he worked for the BLM from 1964 until 1967, when he joined his father and brother in running the Nix family dairy farm until 1988. He then went to work for the Grand Valley Water Users Association. He retired from there on August 31, 2014. Joel had many loves and hobbies, many of which included being outdoors. He cherished spending time with his wife and family. He also loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and hanging out with his lifelong best friend, Wayne Fisher, and good buddy, Bob Moberley. Joel leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Jennifer; children, Shawna Nix, Lynette (Gary) Murray, Nicole (Ed) Quigley, Joel (Katja) Nix, Mike (Christy) Nix, Bo Nix, and Jasmine Nix; 20 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and sisters, Annetta Howell, Jane (Jerry) Hawks, and Patsy Nix, as well as numerous well-loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Jay and Lucile; daughter, Jamie; brother, Paul; brother-in-law, Rex Howell; and best friend, Wayne Fisher. Joel is dearly loved and missed by all who knew him…until we meet again. Services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015, at the LDS Church in Fruita, 343 E. Ottley Avenue at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at the New Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita.
