    • CORY - Robert L. Mattox, 71, of Cory, passed away at 6 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2008, in IU Medical Center. He was born on April 24, 1937, in Riley, to Gomer and Rosie Snively Mattox. He graduated from Tollston High School in 1956. Bob owned and operated Mattox Ice Service from 1967 until 1994. In 1987, he sold the company to the Atkinson family. During this time, he still participated in the day-to-day operations. In 1991, he regained ownership of the company, which he later sold, the block ice plant, to a family in the country of Haiti. During this time, he also owned and operated Mattox Enterprises, which was an excavating company. He also owned and operated Mattox Marathon in Terre Haute for several years until selling the company back to the Marathon Company. Bob enjoyed working and spent much of his time doing so. In his free time, he loved being in a boat fishing or in his work shop woodworking.

      Mr. Mattox also spent much of his time volunteering for civic organizations. His memberships include Kiwanis Club in Brazil, where he was the club president from 1977 until 1978, where he achieved the Outstanding Leadership Award and served as the Indiana District Distinguished Secretary from 1981 until 1982. He was also a 32nd degree Mason with Masonic Lodge 264 and Terre Haute Zorah Shrine.

      Survivors include his wife Mary; daughters, Vickie Waggoner and husband Otho of Terre Haute, Robin McCreery of Michigan, and Sonnett Mattox; a son, Brandon Mattox and wife Christina of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Natasha, Shawnna, Josh, Amy, Melinda "Sissy" and Hannah; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Hailynn; brother, Roy Mattox and wife Donna; and sister, Ione Autterson.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Mattox; and son, Robert Lee Mattox II.

      Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., in Brazil, Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Published on July 12, 2008
