      Loved to Play Bingo -

Hilda “Peep” Mary (Ludwig) Westhafer, age 89, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 24, 2017. Peep was born on Monday, February 20, 1928 in Mechanicsburg to the late Neff Ludwig and Myrtle (Brewbaker) Ludwig. Hilda was the widow of H. Wayne Westhafer, whom she married on March 29, 1947, and who died on December 3, 1984. In addition to her parents and husband, Peep is preceded in death by her brother, Merle “Spark” Ludwig, Sr.; her little sister, Bernice; and her beloved feline companion, Charlie.

Hilda’s survivors include her two children: Rickey L. Westhafer and his wife, Laurie, of Harrisburg, Diane L. Hollen and her husband, Joseph, of Mechanicsburg; her three grandchildren: Philip J. Hollen and his wife, Allison, of Etters, Lindsay M. Hood and her husband, Joshua, of Gardners, John F. Hollen of Mechanicsburg; her four great-grandchildren: Elliott Hollen, Emma, Olivia, and Julia Hood; and her two siblings: Neff L. Ludwig of Mechanicsburg, Violet P. Potteiger of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.

Hilda worked for Kulp’s Drive-In Restaurant in both Mechanicsburg and Lemoyne as a waitress. She also worked at Drug Fair in the Windsor Park Plaza and Ryan’s Store in downtown Mechanicsburg. Peep attended the First Church of God in Mechanicsburg for over 20 years. She enjoyed embroidery and creating things for her friends and family. Hilda loved eating diner food and going for breakfast with her brother and sister. One of Peep’s favorite pastimes was playing Bingo, especially at Williams Grove. Hilda liked to watch game shows and scratch off lottery tickets, particularly the Bingo ones. She loved cats and held a special place in her heart for cherished feline companion, Charlie. Most importantly, Hilda loved the time she got to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always buying her family special gifts and cards, which she put an extreme amount of thought and care into.

All are welcome to join Peep’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Friday, March 31, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Tracy A. Conner officiating. Hilda’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the Stage & Studio Café, next door to the funeral home, following the service. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Honored to be pallbearers are Philip Hollen, Joshua Hood, John Hollen, and Rickey Westhafer.
