- Carol “Chip” Jean Barnes, 68, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Thursday morning, August 9, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. She had fought a courageous battle with mantle cell lymphoma since January of 2017. Born October 18, 1949 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Carl Rife and Mary Josephine Heller Barnes. She was a 1967 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School. Chip worked most of her life as a Medical Transcriptionist, most recently with Summit Health since 2008. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg where she served on the Altar Guild and as an usher. She was a Jackie Sorenson aerobics instructor for several years and later a Zumba gold instructor at the Chambersburg Fitness Center. She was so dedicated that she continued to work and teach Zumba throughout her treatment. She enjoyed spending time at Cape May, NJ and Myrtle Beach, SC. The love and support of her family and friends was extremely important to her. The pride and joy of her life was her three grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Douglas Potts and wife Janet of Joliet, IL; her daughter Kristen Potts and fiancé Kenny Perry of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Sarah Potts, Lauren Potts, and Adam Grove; and her sister, Dawn “Tudy” Gates and husband Richard of Chambersburg.
A memorial service to celebrate Chip’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at First Evangelical Luthern Church, 43 West Washington Street, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Jane Nicholson will officiate. Private interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 and following the service on Tuesday at the church.
