    • Kathryn A. “Kate” Yoder, 80, of Berne, Indiana passed away Thursday morning, August 7, 2008 at Adams Memorial Hospital.
      Kathryn was born on January 7, 1928 in Paulding, Ohio. The daughter of Frank and Clara (Frecker) Eschbach both deceased. She married Robert Yoder on February 7, 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1983.
      Kathryn was a member of the Cross United Church of Christ in Berne. She was a Sunday School, Mission band, and Catechism teacher as well as a member of the Women’s Group and the Dorcas Circle. She also served as a deaconess.
      Kathryn was an employee of the Ben Franklin Store in Berne for thirty years. She was also an employee at the Coffee Shop, Berne Hardware, and for twenty years operated the answering service for the Berne Police Department and the Berne Fire Department.
      Kathryn was a member of the Garden Club and helped initiate the “Garden” at Swiss Heritage. She was also a former member of the Berne Mother’s Club. Kathryn was an avid sports fan. She also was instrumental in helping start many civic projects in the community ,including the Cub Scouts, the City Swimming Pool, the Berne Kindergarten, and the Activities Department at Swiss Village.
      Katherine is survived by a son, Robert L. (Cyndy) Yoder of New Palestine, Indiana; a son, Chris (Rhea Ann) Yoder of Berne, Indiana; a son, Greg Yoder of Lafayette, Indiana; and a daughter, Susan Yoder of Berne, Indiana; six grandchildren, Jeremy Yoder, Todd (Susan) Yoder, Alisha Beard, Nick Yoder, Michael Yoder, and Holly Yoder; and five great-grandchildren, Gavin Pelfry, Isaac Pelfry, Iyana Beard, Lily Kathryn Yoder, and Luke Yoder. Other survivors include a sister, Virginia Amli of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Mary Jane Bebout of Van Wert, Ohio; and a sister, Billie Ishmael of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
      Kathryn was preceded in death by a son, Jeffroy Yoder; a brother, Robert Eschbach; a brother, Lloyd Eschbach; and a sister, Bea Allmindinger.
      Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2008 in the First Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana with the Rev. George Krestik and Michael Yoder officiating. Interment will follow in the M.R.E. Cemetery,Berne.
      Friends will be received from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2008 in the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
      Preferred memorials are to the Cross United Church of Christ.
