- Raymond C. Johnson, 78, of Huntington, IN, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at 5:45 p.m. at his home.
Mr. Johnson worked as a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service for 33 years. He had also worked as a driver for Huntington Area Transportation, as a wood cutter, a farmer and in construction for many years.
He was a 1955 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School and was inducted into the Huntington County Basketball Hall of Fame. After high school, he served in the United States National Guard. He helped coach several youth sports teams in Huntington County, including Huntington County Baseball’s Clear Creek team for many years.
He was born Oct. 7, 1937, in Huntington to Herman H. and Loretta M. Ness Johnson. He married Mariella Rody on June 25, 1960, in Fort Wayne, and she survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, John (Joan) Johnson, of Huntington; Joseph (Carol) Johnson, of North Manchester; and Brother Jerome “Jerry” Johnson, O.F.M. Capuchin, of Detroit, MI; two daughters, Judy (Todd) Knecht, of North Manchester, and Jennifer (Arthur) Leighton, of Sugar Island, MI; three sisters, Sister M. Joan Elizabeth Johnson, C.S.C., of Notre Dame; Susan (Patrick) Landrigan, of Fort Wayne; and Ann Marie (Sam) Snyder, of North Manchester; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Calling is Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 1:30 p.m., at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, in Huntington. A service will be held on Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Huntington. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
