    • Rodney D. Hammel, age 66, of Huntington, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019 at 3:00 am at Parkview Huntington Hospital. He received services from Pathfinders Services and attended East State Street Church of God. Rodney enjoyed music, walking, jumping, good food, and drinking milkshakes with family and friends. His smile, laugh, and ornery personality will be remembered.

      Rodney was born December 5, 1952, in Huntington, a son of Richard “Dick” and Arlene (Funk) Hammel. He is survived by his mother Arlene Hammel of Huntington, brother Terry (Sandy) Hammel of Fort Wayne, and sister Brenda Rittenhouse of Huntington. Also surviving are nieces Pamela Curdes, Christa (Jaysonn) Spurgeon and Audra Rittenhouse, nephews Joshua (Christi) Rittenhouse and Tim Hammel, great-nieces Lindsey Curdes, Abigail Curdes, and Selah Spurgeon, great-nephews Tristan (Amaris) DeFord, Andrew Spurgeon and Levi Spurgeon, and great-great-nephew Jansen DeFord. He will also be missed by Pathfinder staff and clients, and Parkview Huntington Hospital staff. He was preceded in death by his father Dick Hammel, 2 sisters Lynette Ann Hammel and Crystal Ann Hammel, and brother-in-law Ray Rittenhouse.

      Visitation will be held Saturday, July 20 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm preceding the 1:30 pm funeral service at Deal-Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel. Pastor Dan Wust will officiate. Burial will follow in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Huntington.
