- JOANN M. NIX, 84, of Fort Wayne, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital. She was a lifetime resident of Fort Wayne, and had worked at the Box Company and Penguin Point. "Remembering our precious Joann, there is not enough words to say how Joann has impacted our lives. Our memories of her will stay with us forever. Her heart was so filled with love, compassion, kindness, joy, and was so giving to others. She never complained when most people would. She was a very meek person, loved her family and loved her dogs. She loved being outside, crafts and also loved to laugh." In her remaining years, she loved living at Covington Commons, where she won an award for the most caring and helpful person there. They adored her. When she received her award, her comment was "well, I don't deserve this". "This was our Joann. We as family and friends, were Blessed to have known this extraordinary person. We will carry your memory in our hearts forever." Surviving are her nieces, Karen Endris of Avilla, Linda Schwartz of Fort Wayne, and Lynn Newnam of Fort Wayne; nephews, John May and Robert Messmer; sister-in-law, Cheryl C. Harber of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorman E. Nix in 2006; and her brother, Robert Messmer. Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2213 Brooklyn Ave., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Burial in Catholic Cemetery.
