    • WINEINGER, EUGENE, age 96 years, of Lake Station, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014. He was born in Cuzco, IN to the late Levi and Olive Wineinger. He was married 73 years to his wonderful and loving wife, Elizabeth “Betty”.

      He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; daughters, Betty Jean (James) Luckow, Joan Wineinger; sons, Eugene (Linnea) Wineinger and Robert (Linda) Wineinger; grandchildren, Jill (Carl) Nehm, Douglas (Kristin) Luckow, Amy (Dr. Adam) Ostendorf, Sarah (Ian) Howe, Lisa Wineinger (Buddy Pierce), Kellie (Jonathan) Wilkerson, many great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends.

      Eugene worked at U.S. Steel for 42 years. He was active at his Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Merrillville. He enjoyed his family and playing dartball.

      A special thank you to Joan Wineinger for excellent care of her dad.

      In lieu of flowers, contributions are preferred to the Wineinger family.

      A funeral service will be Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, with Rev. Carolyn Heider officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. A visitation for Eugene will be Friday, January 24, 2014 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, (219) 942-2109 or online at www.reesfuneralhomes.com.
