Ruby Roberta Mink, 91, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield, IL. Ruby was born on August 11, 1926 in Milton, IL, daughter of Robert and Alfreada Tucker Cresson. One of seven children, she was preceded in death by four brothers; Arthur, Robert, Alfred, and Phil, and two sisters; Charlotte and Margret. Ruby married Harvey Ray Mink of Pittsfield and was married 66 years until his death on September 16, 2014. She had two children, Marilyn E. Mink, who passed on February 10, 2010, and is survived by her son, Harvey R. Mink, Jr. (wife Carolyn). Ruby has two granddaughters and five great grandchildren. Ruby attended her first 12 years of school in Griggsville, IL. She graduated in 1944 with an astounding consecutive 12-year record of perfect attendance. After graduating from Gem City Business College in Quincy during 1945, she worked as a secretary for the Illinois Veterans Commission for three years. After marrying Harvey, she worked as a homemaker for the rest of her life. Ruby was very interested in genealogy and proud of her ancestors who had served her country. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). In addition to an ancestor in the Revolutionary War, Ruby's great-great-grandfather served in the War of 1812; and her grandfather, Robert Cresson, served in the Union Army in the Civil War. Ruby loved animals. At one time, she had lots of pet goats. She particularly loved dogs and has had at least one pet poodle for each of the past 59 years. Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Bethel Cemetery near Detroit with Pastor Gary Dice officiating. There will be a visitation Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Cemetery.
