    • Pearl Viola (Westhafer) Walters, age 94, of Carlisle, and formerly of Oberlin Gardens, Steelton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 14, 2017, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Pearl was born on Thursday, May 31, 1923 in Silver Spring Township to the late Clair George Westhafer and Ruth Edna (McCartney) Westhafer. Pearl was the widow of Lester G. Walters, whom she married on July 8, 1944, and who died on November 28, 1991. In addition to her parents and husband, Pearl is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Joseph C. Chambers, Jr.; and her two brothers: Vance Westhafer and Elwood Westhafer.

Pearl’s survivors include her six children: Terry L. Walters and his wife, Carol, of Duncannon, Donald E. Walters and his wife, Cheryl, of New Cumberland, Jack L. Walters and his wife, Jan, of Mechanicsburg, Jeffrey A. Walters of Camp Hill, Linda S. (Walters) Chambers of Lewisberry, Diane L. (Walters) Granoff and her husband, Steve, of Camp Hill; her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; her brother, Clair Westhafer, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; and her sister, Pauline Sipe and her husband, Richard, of Carlisle.

Pearl enjoyed cooking, sewing, making crafts, gardening, and decorating. She really had a love of adorning all that she could with her holiday decorations for all seasons. Pearl was an old fashioned woman who looked forward to dressing up every Saturday and doing various things with her family. She also loved to shop and would always say, “I love to go through the stores”. Pearl was a true animal lover, especially of dogs. She cherished all of her dogs, but held a special place in her heart for her Maltese, Rooster.

Pearl treasured the time she spent with her daughters, Diane and Linda. The three women always took an annual mother-daughter trip to Ocean City, New Jersey. Pearl loved the beach, which she always referred to as the seashore, and she looked forward to traveling with her girls each year. She was a devoted mother who treasured her family. Pearl sacrificed very much for her children. Pearl was strong-willed and never gave up.

All are welcome to join Pearl’s family at her viewing on Thursday, September 21, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Nancy R. Easton. Burial in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisburg will be private.

Diane and Linda would like to thank the staff at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home from the bottom of their hearts for all the love and care that they provided to their mother.
